Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena declare war on waste hiding under the sea
Being aware of the damage that our sea suffers due to the amount of waste and debris discarded, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena carry out an annual cleaning of the seabed and it’s always a surprise to see what can come out of the bottom of the sea. And this last time, what has been found under the water has surprised everyone.
A group of twelve divers dedicated an entire morning to dive in the water area which belongs to Marina Port de Mallorca. Between two boats and with the help of the dock staff, they managed to extract about ten shopping carts, a bicycle, and an electric scooter.
The exclamations of amazement and disbelief of the passers-by walking along the Paseo Marítimo, as well as the marina’s own clients when the team extracted these items, were accompanied by applause and congratulations for carrying out this action.
The same happened in Marina Palma Cuarentena when the team made up of three divers and two dock staff members managed to extract 2 shopping carts, a baby cart, a bicycle, an electric scooter, several car wheels, a barrier and even a truck wheel.
With this action, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena wanted to make an-appeal to both the users of the boats and the general public who enjoy the Promenade. It is inconceivable that there are still those who do not realise the damage they cause to the environment.
These two marinas located in the centre of Palma, work intensely for the double objective of actively collaborating with the care of the environment, and to create awareness among customers, marina users and the general public, about the need to take care of the environment.
Both marinas have a strong commitment to the environment which is reflected in their EMAS registration, blue flag, and their consequent environmental statement in which the cleanliness of the seabed is reflected and that they reach out each year to share their ecological policy and the actions which they carry out in this regard.
Likewise, Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Palma Cuarentena are inscribed in the Carbon Footprint Registry and certified with ISO 14001. Marina Port de Mallorca also has the 5- blue star marine category awarded by IMCI in which in addition to certifying the quality of its facilities requires a high level of rigour.
