The solidarity yacht from Pelayo Life Challenge, made its prepatarion works at Varadero Valencia

S/Y Cannonball, the Pelayo Life Challenge Yacht, has been stranded for a few days on the premises of Varadero Valencia to carry out their Works prior to the departure of this now famous Atlantic crossing, a motivating example for all cancer patients.

During its stay at Varadero Valencia, this fantastic yacht of 22 meters carried out antifouling works and anodes chanching, a small repair at the fiber helm, and the placement of the Pelayo Life Challenge as well as Varadero Valencia’s vinyl.

Last Sunday November 6th, coinciding with the Valencia Boat Show closure, S/Y Cannonball participated in the start of the Varadero Valencia I Trophy, first trophy organized by Varadero Valencia, and thus started their journey with Tenerife as its first objective, and from there they will cross the Atlantic to reach the Caribbean, Martinique Island in particular.

This solidarity adventure onboard SY Cannonball, will have a special crew, full of courage and overcoming spirit, so, the five women that take part of this challenge, together with a doctor, three journalists and three sailing expertises – with Diego Fructuoso as the Skipper- will give the best of themselves to successfully complete this first part of the journey which won’t be easy or comfortable but very rewarding for all.

This initiative aims to encourage cancer patients not to lose hope and to raise awareness of the importance of investing in research on this disease, increasingly present in society.

Varadero Valencia wanted to help in this emotional project and wanted to have the vessel revised and prepared to give its maximum performance at sea. Santiago Donat, Shipyard’s Manager, sent a message wishing them a great journey: “We wish you all the good luck and courage. An incredible crew sets sails which will carry out an extraordinary job. With Diego Fructuoso at the rudder, the journey will be spectacular and safe. We’ll follow you from here to encourage achieve the objective, which is everyone’s goal. Good luck champions!”.
